Suiren Character Spotlight

Welcome to my FKG Character Spotlight! Last week we learned about the short but vibrant life of the Japanese national flower, Sakura. Today we are going to view the aqua goddess, Suiren. A 5★ who has a unique ability that may keep her alive more than others at a gamble.

Suiren(スイレン) in english is 'Water Lily' and her flower meaning in game is "pure and innocent heart," "trust, faith" and "innocence".  She says she is usually serving from the Banana Ocean's Royal Palace. Her way of talking is like that of a maid or servant, and it is very humble and sincere. Her attribute is Slashing and her favorite present is books. She comes from the family of Nymphaeaceae which is the main name of water lilies. Her Hp starts at 720 and ends at 7500 and then add 100% affection bonus of 1440, making her clearly the lowest hp 5star by far in the game. Her attack begins with 593 and ends with 3900+1440, giving her pretty decent hitting power. Her defense sprouts at 379 and blooms with 1650 plus 600 making this also average. Her moving speed is quite a quick 600, faster than most other girls(even though she goes barefoot!). She has the unescapable Thousand Guilty skill which does 2.4x dmg to a single enemy but has a trigger percentage starting at a whoping 32, increasable to 37%. Most girls begin at 20 or less, so this is one thing that makes up for those meager stats. She unleashes a thousand of her little leaf daggers surrounding the enemy and with a single snap, they all charge at the enemy at once, taking dmg from all sides without any chance to run! Now the unique aspect to Suiren, her main ability. She can avoid attacks completely with a certain percent chance(I beleive it to be 30%). It happens everytime someone attacks her, she will either take dmg like normal or a "avoided" sign in blue will pop out next to her and any array of attacks will be negated and then it resets again on the next attack. There are times when she will be the first one to die due to her really low hp or may be the last one to die. Eitherway, if she does happen to dodge alot, it means all your other girls aren't getting hit making it as if the enemy is just wasting his turn. Her after evolution skill inrcrease all party members defense by 10%. Suiren helps her team survive with a small def boost and even uses her own body if she has to, hoping she will be able to dodge them. Truly a pure and innocent heart.

Her illustration feels very refreshing and does well to reflect her flower counterpart. Her short hair has the bright yellow color of the tip of a white water lily stamen. She wears a kind of frilly leafy maid costume which exposes her abdomen. The main parts are white like her petals and then her extensions are the green leaves that float around her. She carries around gauntlets and greaves that have a white base with a strong gold surface touch with a shiny emerald embedded in them. Along with her golden jewelry around her ankles, she reminds me of someone with an equipment of a war goddess and that is further sensed in her evoluted form. She wields these tiny daggers which I suspect are her seeds and wears a belt for them on her thigh. She also has these cutouts on her leaves which may be her stalk? And finally for her feet, she wears nothing! Going completely barefoot, probably a touch for the aquatic types who can "walk" on water. They are so nicely drawn that you'd think her scene would include them but...to our disappointment, it's something else. Her evolution form does not have much things changed, just everything looks more reinforced. Her armor has upgraded into this heavy plating and her leaves are lessened but look sharper than her former ones. They are also tipped with a slight yellow, signifying the flower is closer to maturity. What has been altered is part of the armor on her left leg and the absense of it on her left arm. Her right thigh is uncovered to hold her deadly daggers but her left leg has a full installment, plating it all. She now equips round shouderpads as well. Her frillyness has become evermore frilly, and with that pose, she seems very well balanced and flexible in the ways of swiftly ambushing her opponents. I like both designs as they reflect very well to her flower part with a unique twist on a maid uniform.
Nyan~
Although Suiren has the special ability to avoid mob attacks, she isn't the only one who has it! She is a feline type of character who represents a thing cats actually love to play with. Her name isssss Green Britslegrass/Foxtail(エノコログサ)! Having two dodgers in the team seems really fun to play with. Of course for that price, Foxtail also has ridiculously low hp with her base hp being even lower than Suiren's but is made up with the affection bonus to become somewhat o k. If I ever get her I am so trying that out!

The pretty water lily
lol
Time to learn about her origin. Water Lily outside the game has a few meanings, main ones I've found were 'purity of heart' and 'truth'. Water lilies are actually the national flower of Bangladesh, also imprinted on their national emblem. They symbolize many things to different countries and religions. For Buddhism, the different colors of the lilies have their own meaning or representation. To Hinduism, the way the lilies bloom once sun rises and closes when it sets represent ressurection, and it also represents purity since the water lilies grow in dirty mud but sprout out to become beautiful and pristine flowers. So the one Suiren represents in the game is the White Water Lily or Nymphaea odorata. Reading through there descriptions, they reminded me of a starcraft race, the Zerg! While they are really beautiful and a delight to see, they are referred to as the weeds of the water by some for their massive invasive breeding behaviors they have. If not properly taken care of, they will invade the whole pond or lake, causing less oxygen and sunlight available for the other plant/animal life living in the area. Another similiar aspect is that their blooms only last for a few days; since there is so many of them though, no worries on missing out. Keep your marines on standby for any ling infestation. They may destroy little ecosystems if grown without control but they are also essential as they can provide homes to little creatures like frogs and become food when they die. Their leaves are the lilypads that we all used to see long time ago when we were young, they're not directly connected the flower but from the roots under the water. Home for the froggies~

Oh crap
The splendid plant Nymph of the water, Suiren! Watch her dodge and invade all your enemies away.
